Supreme Court Says States Must License, Recognize Same-sex Marriages

By a vote of  5-4, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the Fourteenth Amendment (the Equal Protection Clause) of the U.S. Constitution requires all states to license same-sex marriages and to recognize same-sex marriages performed out-of-state. The Court reversed the ruling of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, which had upheld a ban on same-sex marriages in four states (Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee).   Same-sex marriage is now legal nationwide.
